Wording to leave a gift in your will

 

If you do decide to make provision for St Clare Hospice in your will the size and type of legacy you choose to make is, of course, entirely a matter for you to decide; however you may find the following specimen clauses useful.
You might like to take these specimen legacy clauses with you when you see your solicitor as this will help save time and effort. Whichever one best suits, you can be sure of making a vital contribution to the future of your local hospice.

 

“Residual Legacy”

A suitable clause for inclusion in your Will might be:
“My trustees shall hold my residuary estate and the income thereof upon trust [as to a % share] for the charity known as St Clare Hospice, registered charity number 1063631; of Hastingwood Road, Hastingwood, Essex CM17 9JX, for its general purposes. The receipt of the person who professes to be the treasurer or other proper officer for the time being of the charity to be sufficient discharge to my trustees".

“Cash Legacy”

Known legally as a Pecuniary Legacy.  A suitable clause for inclusion in your Will might be:
“I give to St Clare Hospice, registered charity number 1063631; of Hastingwood Road, Hastingwood, Essex CM17 9JX, the sum of xxxx pounds (in words) (£xxx in figures) for its general purposes and declare that the receipt of the person who professes to be the treasurer or other proper officer for the time being of the charity shall be a sufficient discharge to my trustees".

 

“Legacy in Kind”

Known legally as a Specific Legacy.  A suitable clause for inclusion in your Will might be:
“I give to St Clare Hospice, registered charity number 1063631; of Hastingwood Road, Hastingwood, Essex CM17 9JX, my [short description of property given] for its general purposes and declare that the receipt of the person who professes to be the treasurer or other proper officer for the time being of the charity shall be a sufficient discharge to my trustees".
