Be a Star, join the Starlight Walk!
REGISTER ONLINE NOW – CLICK HERE!
Welcome to the St Clare Hospice Starlight Walk webpage. For the first time ever, we are organising a 6 mile walk round Loughton and Buckhurst Hill to raise money for the patients of St Clare Hospice.
The Starlight Walk is taking place on Saturday 18th September 2010. We’re hoping that 1,000 people will sign up to be a star for the night and help us raise £50,000 to contribute towards the £2.3 million we need every year to provide free of charge care to its patients and their families in West Essex and East Hertfordshire. Last year, we cared for 400 families from Epping Forest so the money raised really will care for local people.
Registration is now open! Register online or download a registration form, complete and return to us in the post.
Please read the below FAQs to find out more about the Walk. If you have any further questions, please call 01279 773 750 or Email Us.
How long is the Walk?
The Starlight Walk is approximately 6 miles long (just under 10k) and follows a circular route round Loughton and Buckhurst Hill. We recommend that you do some training walks prior to the event to prepare yourself. The route will be marshalled by staff, volunteers and police with first aid support. We believe it will take the average walker around 2 hours to complete the walk.
What time does the Walk start?
You can sign in and collect your t-shirt from 6pm in the car park by Loughton Library and Leisure Centre on Trap’s Hill. The warm up will start at approximately 7.30pm and the Walk will leave the car park at 8pm.
How do I sign up?
You can register online, download a registration form or get in touch and we will post you a sign-up form(s). Simply complete the registration form and either bring it to our Hospice Reception (Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm) or post it to St Clare Hospice, Hastingwood Road, Hastingwood, Essex, CM17 9JX with your cheque made payable to St Clare Hospice. Please do not post cash.
Can I sign up more than one person?
Yes, the more the merrier! Registering online or by the paper form will register a maximum of four people. You can photocopy the registration form or call for additional forms if needed. It is very important that we have the full name and home address of each person you are registering and that they also consent to the terms and conditions of the event. Not providing these details will hold up your application.
What happens next?
Once we have received your registration form or online payment we will process your details and send you an information pack within two weeks. If you sign up for our e-newsletter we will then send you regular updates about the Starlight Walk. At the beginning of September you will then be sent your registration card and final instructions.
Is there a closing date for entries?
We will not accept entries after Friday 10th September so please make sure that everyone you know who wants to sign up does it before then – the sooner the better! Due to the administrative work that is carried out to register and process applications, we cannot accept entries on the night.
Who can take part in the Walk?
The Starlight Walk is open to men and women aged 14 years and over. Children aged 14 and 15 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Only Guide Dogs and Hearing Dogs are permitted to take part.
Do I have to raise any sponsorship?
Your entry fee helps cover the cost of organising the event but it’s the sponsorship raised by the walkers that will really make a difference to our patients and their families. So we hope that every person taking part will try to raise as much as they can to help us continue to provide a high level of care. You can download more sponsor forms from the links on the left hand side or set up your own Justgiving online sponsor page. As an incentive, there will be a fantastic prize for the top individual fundraiser and the highest fundraising team!
I’d love to be part of the night without walking. How else can I get involved?
We need volunteers to help prepare the route, sign in the walkers, sell merchandise and marshalling the course. If you would like to help with any of these, please call 01279 773 750 or Email Us as we’d love to hear from you.
